Past Continuous Tense

      A.    Definition
Past continuous tense used to express actions or events that is taking place or progress in the past when other actions or events happen[1].  
      B.     Formula[2]
(+) Subject + Was/Were + Verb-ing + Object
(-) Subject + Was/were + Not + Verb-ing + Object
(?) Was/were + Subject + Verb-ing + Object?

Note :Was for Subject I,She,He,It
Were for Subject They, You, We 
      C.     Example[3]
( + ) She was reading magazines.
( - )  She was not reading magazines.
( ? ) Was she reading magazines? 
       D.    Uses[4]
1.      The past continuous is used for an action progress in the past.
Ex : The boy was eating fried rice last morning.
2.      Used for an action progress in the past when other action interrupt,usually use 2 words When, andWhile.
·         When
Past Continuous Tense + When + Past Tense
Ex : My father was talking with my mother when he came.
·         While
Past Tense + While + Past Continuous Tense
Ex : My Sister Arrived while  we were eating our dinner.
3.      The past continuous to talk about actions or events that happened at a specific time in the past.
Ex : We were studying hard at seven o’clock last night.
4.      The past continuous is used for two action that were occurring simultaneously in the past.
Past Continuous Tense + While + Past Continuous Tense
Ex : I was reading book while they were studying English.
